What's included
Artificial turf's whole appeal is zero mowing, zero irrigation, and green year-round under Utah's watering restrictions — but almost everything that separates good turf from turf that puddles, ripples, or looks obviously fake happens in the base underneath it, not the turf product itself.
That base is several inches of excavated, compacted road base graded to actually drain, with a weed barrier underneath and the turf rolled, seamed, and secured on top. Skipping proper compaction is the single most common shortcut that leads to soft spots, drainage failures, and turf that looks rippled within a year or two.
Pile height, density, and infill get matched to how the space is actually used — pet areas typically get a different infill (to manage odor) than a pure-aesthetic front yard, and high-traffic zones get a denser product than a decorative side yard.
How it works
Step by step, here's what actually happens on site:
- 1Excavate the existing lawn or surface several inches deep
- 2Install and compact a class II road base graded to drain properly
- 3Lay a weed barrier over the compacted base
- 4Roll out turf, seam sections, and secure edges
- 5Brush in infill matched to the turf's intended use
